The estate appears prominently on the 1549 maps of the Guelph Captains. Moreover, it is marked as “the holding of Lionardo Buonarroti”, Michelangelo’s nephew.
Gabriele Buondonno, a recent graduate in agriculture with a strong desire to farm, bought it in 1988. Since then, with commitment and perseverance, he has dedicated himself to viticulture, creating Casavecchia alla Piazza. Here wines and oils are produced following an Organic Farming cultivation system. Likewise, it’s a place to spend one’s holidays surrounded by nature.
From the very beginning, we have been oriented towards organic farming because it has always seemed to us the best way to operate discreetly in a natural environment, trying to modify its balance as little as possible. In 1995, with a group of small Tuscan and Piedmontese organic farms, we founded the Trimillii – Amici viticoltori di Piemonte e Toscana, which has become a consortium.
In 2016, we and several Chianti producers and distributors committed to environmental protection founded the Chianti bio-district. It promotes organic farming and all those good practices aimed at respecting the territory and the environment as much as possible.
