Lornano is a winery the same family has owned since 1904. It is set in the hills southeast of Castellina in Chianti, on the border between Castellina and Monteriggioni. In addition, it has been a member of the Consorzio del Marchio Storico Chianti Classico Gallo Nero since its establishment in 1924. At Lornano, we produce high-quality wines without chemical fertilizers or herbicides and use only minimal amounts of added sulfites. The property covers more than 180 hectares, 70 of which are vineyards. Eighty percent of the vineyards are made up of 15 carefully selected, different Sangiovese clones, expressing all the authentic features of this ancient and incredible grape. The remaining 20% is planted with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and a small percentage of white Trebbiano and Malvasia grapes used to produce our famous Vin Santo DOC. At 300 meters above sea level, Lornano’s vineyards are characterized by different soils and microclimates.
The wine uses grapes exclusively from the property’s vineyards, vinified in a modern wine cellar with temperature-controlled steel tanks, and then aged in French oak barrels in the ancient underground aging cellar, protected from sudden temperature changes.
