This family-run farm is nestled among the Chianti Classico hills, the historical domain of the Gallo Nero. Located near Castellina in Chianti on the western slope overlooking Siena and the Val d’Elsa, the farm is just over forty hectares, and about half is uncultivated or wooded. The remaining hectares are divided between vineyards and olive groves—the farmhouse and its cellar date back to the 1600s, marvelous evidence of an old winemaking tradition.
The owner Adriano Barneschi moved to Podere la Piaggia in 1950. The first labeled production was in 1964. Over the years, new vineyards and olive groves have been created while preserving the existing ones. Adriano’s children, Marco and Silvia, also work on the farm. They have modernized the winery yet still keep the traditional peasant’s attention to detail and respect for nature alive.
